There are several ways to go with the Sportster
rear turn signals. Our #1 recommendation is to move the turn
signals to the license plate bracket. Harley Davidson makes
two kits to do this. The first one (HD kit #68732-02B) is a
bar that attaches to your existing license plate frame, and uses your
existing bulb housings. Although Harley Davidson says that this
kit will only work on 04 and newer bikes, it will work on 93-03 models
by drilling a 4th hole in the rear fender license plate area (like
the 04 and newer models have) for the wires to go through. The
second kit (HD kit #60215-06) is our personal favorite. It is
their layback license plate / turn signal combination and looks really
great. As with the other kit, you must drill the 4th hole
in the fender on 1993-2003 bikes. Both of these kits are
pictured below.
If your bike is a 1993-2003, and you want
to go with the smaller 2700 series saddlebags and don't want to use
a detachable pouch on the rear, you also have another option,
that is HD kit #68471-94C. This kit moves the existing turn
signal rearward with a chrome relocation pad (photo A below).
This kit works fine and looks good. If you are also using
a HD detachable sissy bar or rack, you can still use this kit but
you will also have to get HD docking kit #90465-98A for 2001 and older
bikes or #53532-02 for 2002 and 2003 bikes. This works OK but
it doesn't leave your strut very clean looking (photo B below) compared
to how it would look with the license plate mounted turn signals
(photo C below).
